YOU DON'T WANT MY LOVE ANYMORE

about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape. This song was recorded, along with 13 other songs, in a 12 hour session. It was the first session where I met Kearney Barton. I wanted to do this kind of session since I knew The Beatles recorded some of their best sounding stuff very much like this. To this day, I like the fast pace of recording music since it seems more lively to me. By taking too long on a song and second guessing yourself, you tend to bog down the creative process. I'd rather have a few rough areas and even mistakes in songs rather than spending months on a perfect recording that stifles creativity. This song features Wayde Brown (me) on guitar and vocals; my dad Clinton Brown on bass, Bill Fletcher on drums, and Sam Haylor on backing vocal. (I used the Audacity program in my home studio to add keyboards and flesh out the backing vocals a little bit. The song also had one timing mistake that was corrected as well.) When I first was prepared to sing the lead vocal, both my dad and I warned Kearney that this lead vocal will most likely blast him away, so beware on those controls. He said he was ready. Then, when I hit the first harsh notes for the chorus, he nearly fell out of his chair and had to stop me so he could readjust and do it again. He said he hadn't heard anyone hit notes like that since Ann Wilson of Heart. (Now talk about a compliment!) I remember after the session was over, Kearney said he was very impressed at what we accomplished, especially since we never met before and had barely talked about a game plan. We kind of just went in and did it. The 12 hours included a quick, rough mix down as well. This is one of four songs that got radio play. Not bad for not being on a 45 single or anything. I think the harsh vocals I had on the song gave it a push where people seemed to like it.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This is song #223 that I wrote. It's about a gal I fell for but she broke my heart. This is the person who spawned about a half dozen songs before I quit writing about her. It was with this song, along with “(Why Do) You Torture Me” that I was able to move on. I had several people tell me that this is the best song that I’ve written and that I may never write one better. Some argue that I should use more distortion on the guitars and so on, but I disagree. It's not meant to be a 70's rock style anthem. It's a love ballad with a hard lead vocal push. I'm very happy with the outcome, especially since I can't sing like that anymore. I was 18 years old when I hit those notes for this recording.

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA. and MINE music Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

Since You've Left Me, I've Been On My Own.
Upset And Tired, I Wish You'd Come Home.
I'm So Unhappy. I Feel More Than Sad
As I'm Pretending Not To Feel So Bad.

Let Me Tell You, I Miss You So.
With The Pain I Feel, Why'd You Have To Go?
And There's Somethin' I Still Need To Say,
I'm Loving You Always, Each And Every Day.

But You Don't Want My Lovin' Anymore,
And You Don't Want My Kisses Anymore.
Without You, Where Am I To Be?
I'm Lost In A World Of Reality.

Though You're Gone And With Another Man,
I'll Keep On Going, Trying The Best I Can.
Forever Remaining Is The Love I Keep Inside.
Holding Back The Tears, I Fear To Cry.

But You Don't Want My Lovin' Anymore,
And You Don't Want My Kisses Anymore.
Without You, Where Am I To Be?
I'm Lost In A World Of Reality.
(Solo)
All I Hope Is For You To Feel Free,
But Still I Think Of The Way It Used To Be.
I've Said Enough. Now Let Time Begin.
I'll Wait Until That Day To Be Friends Again.

But You Don't Want My Lovin' Anymore,
And You Don't Want My Kisses Anymore.
Without You, Where Am I To Be?
I'm Lost In A World Of Reality.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
