UNFINISHED ACOUSTIC JAM

from INSTRUMENTAL [Digitally Remastered] by The Santairs

about

This was one of those fun projects because I thought I had lost these recordings. Only recently did I find these recordings stored away in my “vault.” One weekend night circa 1987, my friend, Sean Crain, stopped by to visit and to record a demo of some “songs” he had partially written. It turned out to be more of a jam, mostly with me playing some acoustic leads to songs I never heard before since Sean was directing which way the songs were going. We played for about an hour and recorded about 15 minutes of material. Overall, the recorded parts had about 5 distinct, different patterns and were broken up into different jams. Many of the parts had blatant mistakes in them, and I tried blending the best elements of all the recordings to avoid them, though some have peaked through, which was necessary to keep the flow of the song(s). The task I did was a bit challenging; putting them all together into one cohesive acoustic jam. Three of the songs were slow and melodic acoustic ballads while the other two were more on the rock/blues jam side. I combined the obvious ones together and had two different songs by the end of this project. I decided just to fade one “song” and let the other “song” fade in. It’s a very rough recording and performance, but it was a fun project to do, though it took several hours to make it somewhat presentable. It’s a look back at my teenage years where Sean and I wrote over a couple dozen songs together. Had we stayed teenagers forever, we would have finished these into actual songs, but for now, I’m happy to have them as they stand. You can hear one of us laughing near the end of the jam.

This is song #535.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
