about

This was the first song introduced to me written by my father's good friend, Ruben Rodriguez. I think he wrote nearly the entire tune and all I did was add a word or two, and I think either my father or I added a couple of guitar chords that wasn't in there originally. I was only 15 years old when I recorded a very basic demo of it on a two track, with my father playing the main electric guitar and me playing bass and doing the lead vocals, live in one or two takes. Ruben was also there, playing along with an acoustic guitar. You can hear him at the very end hitting either the wrong notes, or doing something funny. I kept that in just for the fun of it. He had a sense of humor that would allow for something like that. Overall, we performed it fairly well, though it speeds up quite a bit and I hit one bum note in it, but that's the way live performances can be. I decided to do the overdubs using the recording since I don't have many old recordings that featured my father on guitar. Of course, this recording will always remain in demo form, but at least I can have the satisfaction of completing it and that, at the very least, does it some justice. My old notes indicate that Ruben stated that Haley's Comet was the beginning inspiration for this song, as described in parts of the lyrics, like “Chariot of Gold” and “Searching the sky with the night so cold” and so on.
This is song #13.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

When The Sun Goes Down, Your Smiling Face Shows Up In My Dreams.
As The Nights Grow Colder, I Feel You Quivering Beside Me.

But It's Those Memories I Can't Let Go,
'Cause Your Love Revived My Heart And Soul,
A Love So Strong, Nothing Could Make It Wrong;
'Cause I Trusted You Through All The Fears,
The Strength You Give Me When You're Near,
The Smiles You Shared Were So Sincere. And I Love You.

Through Paradise In A Chariot Of Gold,
Searching The Sky With The Night So Cold,
My Hometown Lights, I See Them Glow, Since You've Left Me Here Alone.

Streaking Lights Across The Sky, Reminiscin' Though The Night Line.
Wishin' To Wake Up By Your Smile, Holdin' Me Close, Squeezing You Tightly.

But It's Those Memories I Can't Let Go,
'Cause Your Love Revived My Heart And Soul,
A Love So Strong, Nothing Could Make It Wrong;
'Cause I Trusted You Through All The Fears,
The Strength You Give Me When You're Near,
The Smiles You Shared Were So Sincere. And I Love You.

And Through It All, Time Lingers On.
The Piper Searches For The Flocks In Darkness,
And Kiss Away That Bitter Cold Lord, Since You've Left Me Here Alone.

When The Sun Goes Down, Your Smiling Face Shows Up In My Dreams.
As The Nights Grow Colder, I Feel You Quivering Beside Me.

But It's Those Memories I Can't Let Go,
'Cause Your Love Revived My Heart And Soul,
A Love So Strong, Nothing Could Make It Wrong;
'Cause I Trusted You Through All The Fears,
The Strength You Give Me When You're Near,
The Smiles You Shared Were So Sincere. And I Love You.
Yes I Love You. I Love You!

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
