about

Originally titled TIMING WAS WRONG, this song was born from various emails sent back and forth by me and Stephen. He wrote the first line, and then I would counter with the second line. We did this until we had an entire song, even writing the bridge in the same fashion. We did this back around 2000-2001 and we shelved it. Stephen eventually put a guitar part to it and in 2011, introduced it to the Rice Cracker Project to record. We took the song and worked on it for several months. After getting the basic tracks laid down, Nick (the bassist) and I put in the lead vocal parts which turned out to be horrible. It was something we thought we could knock off easily in a day and it turned out to be disastrous. Without knowing how each other felt, both Nick and I stayed far away from this song until the very end of the album we released called, “Sequence” which featured this song. We were nervous about tackling it again. Before we finally got our lead vocals sounding right, both Nick and I, at different times, overdubbed various instruments all while fine tuning the recording and mix. When Nick and I were ready to complete this song, we found out the best way to go about doing it. Nick’s voice was perfect for the lead verses while mine was right for the backing harmony. Then, during the choruses, Nick and I switched parts where I was singing the lead and he was singing the harmony. Once we made that decision, the song was completed quickly. Stephen already had his lead vocal in the bridge so the song was pretty much done at that point. It was probably the 3rd song recorded for the album but it was one of the last ones to be completed. This was kind of our tribute to The Beatles and The Everly Brothers.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

I WANDERED DOWN TO YOUR HOUSE JUST TO SING YOU A SONG.
I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT MY TIMING WAS WRONG.
I RAN AWAY WITH MY HEAD IN MY HANDS LIKE A CHILD.
I COULDN'T FACE MY DEFEAT, HID MY HEART IN DENIAL.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DO TO ME, 'CAUSE EVERY TIME I WISH TO BE
ALONE WITH YOU, AND YOU WITH ME, YOU'RE GONE. MY TIMING WAS WRONG.

I'VE PLAY THE FOOL LONG ENOUGH, DONE MY LAST CURTAIN CALL.
I'LL MAKE AMENDS LATER ON WHEN MY MATTER'S RESOLVED.
I'VE HEARD IT SAID THERE'S SOMEONE WHO IS OUT THERE FOR ME.
BUT AS IT STANDS THIS IS MORE THAN I CARE TO BELIEVE.

I THROW MY WALLS UP IN MY SELF DEFENSE, KEEPING THE ENEMY AT BAY.
DESPITE A SUDDEN STRIKE OF COMMON SENSE,
THOUGH I TAKE COMMAND, I'M AFRAID.

THE WOUNDS, ONE DAY, WILL BE HEALED AND I'LL VENTURE OUT AGAIN.
THESE MEMORIES, BITTERSWEET, WILL BE LEAVES IN THE WIND.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO ME, 'CAUSE EVERY TIME I WISH TO BE
ALONE WITH YOU AND YOU WITH ME, YOU'RE GONE. MY TIMING WAS...WRONG.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
