I adopted a Doberman named Thor. I love that dog very much and he and I play around a lot. One of the few oddball things I'd “sing” to him is this song. It came about by me telling him, when he would chew things he wasn't supposed to, “You're a thorn in my side, Thor.” Later I would say, “You're a thorn in my butt Thor.” It then eventually morphed into this song. The title is different than what I actually sing, but that's the way I planned it.
In the studio, I set up the microphone and did this little beat with my mouth as the percussion. Then I sung the little rap part (if you can even call it that.) Then I decided to have some fun with it. With each passing line, I would PITCH it up one half step until I got all the way up the scale to the higher octave. Then I'd reset it to the normal pitch (in the key of “F” I think) and then PITCH down to the lower octave. To finish this song off, I went to the highest scale that the software plug-in would allow, followed by the lowest scale (which is barely audible.) And then the last line/verse was the original key. It was a fun little experiment, and now that it's over, so is this commentary.
