THEY ARE GOOD (DREW’S THEME)

about

This song was first “mixed” at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape. I had Kearney clean up the tape a little so that I could preserve it for a time such as this.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
*NOTE: This song was originally released as a special edition EP called “Sleeping in Dreams” by The Santairs. (IM-704) with original copyright 1990.
This is the 165th song I wrote. This song was played and recorded live on the spot, totally improvised for my 2 year old nephew’s birthday party on a realistic mono tape recorder. It wasn’t even planned. He was just walking around me in circles and was curious about the guitar I had in my hands. So, I started singing whatever came to my mind, and this was it. It was never meant to be anything except something silly for my little nephew, but I kept it around all these years. Drew, at the time, was so happy that I was singing a song with his name; you can hear him screaming with me, very excited at what I was doing. I used a cheap no name classical guitar for the performance. At the end, you can hear Drew’s father talking to him and the television running in the background. Engineer, Kearney Barton, inadvertently came up with the song title (since I didn’t have one anyway) when he saw that I wrote on my notes, “They Are Cued,” meaning the cassette tape was cued at the right place to begin the cleaning of the cassette master, but he misread it as THEY ARE GOOD. So, I kept that title.

Recorded at a “Family member’s” house in Covington, WA. and mixed at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

lyrics

Drew, what am I to do with you?
Drew, what am I gonna with you?
Drew, what am I to do, do, do with you?
Hey Drew, what am I gonna do with you?
Yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea, yea.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
