about

I came up with the title for only one reason—7 is my favorite number. It always has been since as long as I can remember. Some may consider the number unlucky, but I like it. I’ve written a few songs with the number “7” in it. This tune is bordering between avant-garde and serious. It’s a fairly short tune and the original demo I did of it back around 1985-1986 only had about 7 seconds of it, which was part of the experiment; to have a song with the number SEVEN in it while being only SEVEN seconds long. I transferred the original demo onto a digital format, which included my lead vocal and one rhythm guitar. Unfortunately, during the transfer, I lost nearly half of the recording somewhere into Nothingness Land. I used what I had and overdubbed the rest of the song within an hour or so, including bass, another guitar, drums, and a five part vocal. As the song grew, I decided to alter the original idea of having it only be 7 seconds long and extending it to a little more than a minute, featuring something I don’t usually do, play a drum solo. I added the vocals again at the end without any instruments to get the idea of the effect I had during the beginning of the song. This gave it an a capella feel, so I went with it. The intro to the song was just me screwing around, recording two of my Doberman’s favorite toys that made those sounds.

This is song #164.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
