THE LOVE I SAW IN YOU

from I AM AM I (2024 Remaster) by The Santairs

about

I originally disliked this song, but after a couple of minor rewrites, I'm no longer ashamed of it. I came up with the title first and then tried to write a song around the title, which is not something I usually do. I was listening to a lot of George Harrison at the time (his solo stuff) and I think I even borrowed a line or two somewhere. And the obvious intro line, slightly changed, comes from The Beatles song "Dear Prudence." John Lennon probably would've like the irony since he "borrowed" the first couple lines from Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me" for their "Come Together" song. The song is pretty much about a guy who loves this woman without knowing anything about her. All he did was create this illusion of her that was perfect, but when he tried to approach this woman or get to know her, she wasn't anything like what he thought. And, as a matter of fact, was a bit opposite of what he created in his mind. I know the song isn't as deep as my description, but this was part of my earlier songwriting attempts. 6-30-1986 was the date my notes stated I wrote it.
This is song #135.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

The Sun Is Up And The Skies Are Blue.
It's Beautiful And So Are You,
With Your Hair So Soft And Your Voice So Bold.
All I Know Is What I've Been Told.

As I Think Of The Things That I Have Known,
I Look At My Life To See What I've Shown,
Yet I Know It's Wrong To Keep Loving You,
'Cause I Thought Of Love As Something New.

The Things I Feel Is True,
But The Words Won't Come Out,
'Cause I'm Afraid Of Saying The Wrong.
Afraid Without A Doubt.

The Birds Are Singing Just Like They Should.
I Would Love You If I Only Could,
But I'm So Lonely And Much Too Sad.
You're My Dream That I Couldn't Have.
(Solo)
The Love I Saw In You--
I Thought It Was Real;
An Illusion Can Be So Cruel.
No One Knows How I Feel.

The Sun Is Up And And Skies Are Blue.
It's Beautiful And So Are You,
With Your Hair So Soft And Your Voice So Cold.
All I Know Is What I've Been Told.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
