about

This was my first attempt at writing a comedic song. I failed horribly. I put this one on the back shelf, never really planning on recording it. Then, a friend of mine showed me this poem she wrote called, “CRAPPING OVER THE CLOUDS” and I thought to myself, why not? In the original version, I killed the bird. I decided, upon a quick re-write, to be more ambiguous about the bird's demise. This was also the first song where I used the basic 4 chord late 50's ballad progression, purposely sounding like it could have come from that period. This song isn't much, but it is what it is, and that's all that it could ever be.

This is song #20.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

I SAW A BIRD IN THE SKY.
I LOOKED UP AND HE WENT IN MY EYE.
AND I SAID, “WHAT A ROTTEN THING TO DO!
WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO DO THAT TO YOU?”

I WENT AFTER THAT DIRTY OLE BIRD.
HE FLEW OFF WHEN HE HAD HEARD;
FROM THAT DROPPING THAT LANDED IN MY EYE,
I'M GETTING A GUN TO BLOW HIM OUT OF THE SKY.

THAT OLE BIRD ISN'T GOOD FOR THIS PLACE.
I'M GETTING A SHOVEL TO SMASH HIS FACE.
I'LL CATCH THAT BIRD AND TEAR HIM APART.
I'LL PULL OUT HIS FEATHERS AND RIP OUT HIS HEART.

I FINALLY CAUGHT THAT MEAN PARAKEET.
I KISSED HIS BEAK AND BIT AT HIS FEET.
I GRABBED THAT BIRD AND THREW HIM TO THE GROUND.
THEN I PICKED HIM UP AND I THREW HIM ALL AROUND.

WHEN THAT BIRD HIT THE FLOOR,
HE LOOKED AT ME, AND SAID, “NO MORE!”
THE BIRD IS GONE AND MY LIFE IS SO GOOD.
THE BIRD HAD GOT WHAT HE HAD SHOULD.

THE DAY HAS COME AND I'M BACK OUTSIDE.
THE TIMES ARE EASIER SINCE THAT BIRD CAN'T FLY.
I'M GLAD THAT BIRD IS GONE INSTEAD,
BECAUSE HE WAS GETTING TO MY HEAD.

I LOOKED UP TO SEE A FLY,
THEN THIS BIRD CAME OUT OF THE SKY.
THE BIRD SWOOPED DOWN AND HE MISSED THE HIT.
THEN HE TRIED IT AGAIN, HE TOOK A SH...

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
