SWEET AUTUMN LEAVES

about

This song was recorded at my friend, Sean's parents house, around 1986-1987 onto a Memorex DB series cassette tape using a basic mono 2 track recorder we had that was easily portable. We recorded it in the living room along with another song called, “Twilight 2000.” The basic recording was just Sean playing the piano while I performed the lead guitar part, changing the tremolo sound manually on an old Fender amplifier I had back then (which has since burnt up in smoke a few years later.) It's one of the few songs we performed live together in some venues. This was the only recording I had of it. After I transferred it onto the Audacity audio editor and recorder, I overdubbed drums, bass, an acoustic rhythm guitar, maracas, a tambourine and backing vocals. Since Sean was one of my best friends and a co-writer of nearly 50 of my songs, I wanted to preserve this particular recording and just fill in the gaps from there. I still had the original tape of this and I transferred it from a “Denon Precision Audio Component/Stereo Cassette Tape Deck (DRM-700) with Silent Mechanism/Dual Power Supply System 3 Head” onto the Audacity audio editor and recorder. This is song #177 that I wrote. Sean wrote the piano part while I, almost instantly, wrote the lead guitar part. We recorded it the same day we wrote it. To this day, I feel that there has to be a song exactly like this somewhere and that neither of us could write a song this quickly together, but I've yet to find it. Many songs have this particular progression, so it's not exactly the most original tune out there.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
