SOUNDS OF NATURE (JULY 4TH, 1986)

about

This was my very first attempt at recording mostly outside sounds with my two track recorder, which was never meant to go outside. The microphones were really cheap but it gave me an idea of how to do things in the future. This was recorded on the 4th of July in 1986 through-out the day and night just outside my father’s house which has now become an actual recording studio. You can hear the booming sounds of the fireworks going off which sounded a lot like me moving the microphones, which I wasn’t doing. You can also hear me setting the microphone up later and play the bass guitar. I was doing this as a sound check to see how much bleed through was happening from inside the house, which wasn’t significant unless I was playing something loud. On this recording (besides the fireworks), you can hear the wind blowing, cars driving by, police cars, airplanes, dogs barking, people talking and so forth. It was legal, at that time, to set off fireworks in that neighborhood. Now, the politicians passed laws against it which I think is absurd. Regardless of the politics, I forever have this recording I did way back in the day when it was legal to make so much noise on the 4th of July in celebration of our Independence in this country. Nowadays, we have to watch it on TV or something. (Most people still do it regardless of the laws.) Again, this was my first real attempt to record something outside with the two track recorder. I learned a lot that day and have several more attempts at these kinds of recordings over the years. For me, it’s kind of like listening to a time capsule of something long past. This is recording #145.
CAUTION: Be careful when listening to this track with headphones. The LOUD screams of the firewords can hit your eardrums in a nasty way. I highly suggest listening to it on lower levels.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
