SO HAPPY TO SING THE BLUES

from Sequence by Rice Cracker Project

/

about

This song was written during Rice Cracker Project’s 2nd album, entitled “Sequence.” I got the idea from an Internet site that was about how to NOT write a blues song, like starting off by saying how happy you are and so on. I thought that was the perfect premise to write a blues song since I haven’t heard anyone do it before. So I just had some fun with that idea and ran with it. Stephen Prescott, rhythm guitarist of the group, wrote a couple lines in there as well. Bassist, Nick Wilcox, helped structure the musical part of it, deviating from a standard blues riff during the solos. As a matter of fact, the 3 main solos follow a different pattern each time while using different guitar sounds. It’s what I call a standard blues tune that’s not so standard.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

SO HAPPY TO SING THE BLUES
TO BE ALONE, WITHOUT YOU.
SO HAPPY TO BE ON MY OWN
WITH NO ONE THERE TO GREET ME AT HOME.
FREE AGAIN TO BE ALONE IN THE END.

SO HAPPY JUST BEIN' ME,
TUNIN' OUT WITH MY BIG TV,
TELLIN' EVERYONE I'M OKAY,
PUTTIN' ON MY BRAVE FACE.
HIDE THE PAIN, PLAY THE GAME ONCE AGAIN. WO!
(SOLO)
SO HAPPY, HA, TO SHED SOME TEARS,
DROWN MY SORROWS IN A SIX PACK OF BEER.
GOIN’ ‘ROUND SAYIN’ I’M FINE—
AND BE ALONE UNTIL THE END OF TIME.
NO MORE WORRIES, NO MORE REASON TO HURRY. (TAKE ME BACK! OW!)
(SOLO)
BEEN ALONE WITH ME AND MINE.
BEEN ALONE FOR A REALLY LONG TIME.
NO ESCAPIN’ WHAT IS REAL,
NOR CAN I HIDE WHAT I TRULY FEEL.
NOT SO HAPPY TO SING THESE BLUES OVER YOU.
(TAKE ME BACK ONE MORE TIME, OO!)
(SOLO)

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
