SLEEPING IN DREAMS (MORNING’S THEME)

from WE'RE ALL VERSIONS [Digitally Remastered] by The Santairs

about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape. This particular version of this song was recorded a couple years after the original version. I had only a 3 piece group to do the entire recording live within a few takes. The song is pretty much how we sounded live when we performed at gigs. The ending with the orchestra was from a project Kearney recorded a few years prior that the group rejected, so it was left literally on the editing/cutting room floor. Being the hoarder of music that he was, he kept it even though it wasn’t usable; but I had a use for it. I had him loop it onto the reel to reel recorder backwards and at a slower speed, and then tagged it onto the ending of the song. I actually liked that part of the song the most. I never went back to finish this version of this song and I have no intention of doing so now. What you hear is what you get. I’m fine with this version, even though I can pretty it up with more instrumentation, but I figure that the simplicity of the tune wins out, so I’m finished with this particular version of this song.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
The Players: Wayde Brown (me) on lead vocal and guitar, Sean Crain on bass and backing vocals, and Dan Penland on drums and backing vocals.

According to my notes, this is the 386th song that I wrote, but this particular version would make it the 412th. Originally entitled, SLEEPING IN DREAMS (CAROL JEANNE’S THEME), I renamed this version SLEEPING IN DREAMS (MORNING’S THEME). This song was written around 1990 and this version was never released. [Recorded LIVE in the studio.]

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

lyrics

OO—AH!
I REMEMBER THE DREAMS THAT YOU LEFT FOR ME.
YOU TRIED TO HIDE YOUR SOUL, BUT THAT WON’T WORK ANYMORE.

I’M SLEEPING IN DREAMS ALL NIGHT, WISHING TO HOLD YOU TIGHT.
I’LL HELP YOU THROUGH THE PAIN IF YOU GIVE ME THE CHANCE AGAIN.

ONLY IN MY DREAMS ARE YOU REAL.
HELP ME TO FIND THE REASONS!

I REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN YOU WERE AWAY.
YOU GAVE ME HOPE AND PROMISE. NOW WHAT CAN WE DO WITH THIS?

HARD TIMES WILL EXIST EVERYWHERE,
SO FIGHT FOR YOUR FREEDOM TO BE WHO YOU ARE.

I’VE BEEN SLEEPING IN DREAMS OF YOU, WISHING YOU’D LOVE ME TOO.
I’M HERE FOR YOU ALWAYS. JUST COUNT ON ME TO SAY, “I LOVE YOU!”

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
