about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape. To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
The Players: Wayde Brown (me) on lead and backing vocals, flute, all percussion instruments; Sean Crain on bass, piano, and backing vocals; Donna Austin on backing vocals; and Jennifer L. Newman on backing vocals and vocal intro.
According to my notes, this is the 378th song that I wrote. Originally entitled, SLEEPING IN DREAMS (CAROL JEANNE’S THEME), I’ve since decided to remove the female name reference since it truly holds no meaning. The only Carol Jeanne I knew, I never dated. I just liked the way it sounded when pronounced. I can’t remember what I was thinking when I wrote the tune, but I like the surreal words and how the song flows. I have another version of this song done with electrical instruments, called SLEEPING IN DREAMS (MORNING’S THEME) which sounds fairly good, but didn’t capture the spirit of this particular version, so I favor this one. It’s not the best recording of this song, but it captures the spirit that I was going for. There seems to be a bit of The Bee Gees influence, especially the lead vocal.
This song was written around 1990 and it was released as a cassette tape and L.P. back then under the group name THE SANTAIRS. (NOTE: I later made a 3rd version of this song by combining the two versions I had into one newer version called SLEEPY MIX.)

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

lyrics

I REMEMBER THE DREAMS THAT YOU LEFT FOR ME.
YOU TRIED TO HIDE YOUR SOUL, BUT THAT WON’T WORK ANYMORE.

I’M SLEEPING IN DREAMS ALL NIGHT, WISHING TO HOLD YOU TIGHT.
I’LL HELP YOU THROUGH THE PAIN IF YOU GIVE ME THE CHANCE AGAIN.

ONLY IN MY DREAMS ARE YOU REAL.
HELP ME TO FIND THE REASONS!

I REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN YOU WERE AWAY.
YOU GAVE ME HOPE AND PROMISE. NOW WHAT CAN WE DO WITH THIS?

HARD TIMES WILL EXIST EVERYWHERE,
SO FIGHT FOR YOUR FREEDOM TO BE WHO YOU ARE.

I’VE BEEN SLEEPING IN DREAMS OF YOU, WISHING YOU’D LOVE ME TOO.
I’M HERE FOR YOU ALWAYS. JUST COUNT ON ME TO SAY, “I LOVE YOU!”

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
