ROCK AND ROLL BOOGIE

from INSTRUMENTAL [Digitally Remastered] by The Santairs

about

This is one of those odd songs. It was one of the first songs my friend, Sean Crain and I wrote. We didn’t have a title for it and it was a jam we recorded on a cassette with a two track player/recorder. It was done live and we did a good dozen takes of it lasting about 20 minutes. I edited it down to about 4 ½ minutes. In truth, it probably should only be about 3 minutes, but I stretched all the acceptable parts as long as possible. This is why there’s a significant change of beat during the song. It was only meant to be an instrumental. We did this in the mid 80’s and I was just learning how to play the guitar while Sean was beginning to learn piano. His piano skills were better than my guitar skills back then. Even though you can’t hear the piano very well in the mix since it and the guitar was recorded live onto one track, you can tell he was playing some great riffs, especially for a beginner.
On Sept. 30th of 2012, I overdubbed a drum part and then a quick bass part, doing both in one take, keeping the flavor of what we did originally. This was originally recorded when I was writing songs between 30 to 100 or so, so it was really early on.

Since I never completed this song until much later, it becomes song #520.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
