about

What can I say about this silly tune? After watching an episode of “The Six Million Dollar Man” on DVD, one of the phrases a Japanese character used was “Bakemonoga” which I know means MONSTER in English. I then started thinking about Monty Python’s Holy Grail movie where the rabbit attacks everyone, which I always thought was a really funny scene. Then I just started to say OH USAGI BAKEMONOGA in a kind of Hip Hop rap style just to be silly. Then my son shows me this crazy youtube video which has more hits than anything in the world called Gangnam Style. It’s purely silly trash musically though I have to admit, the video itself was a little bit funny. Surely it wasn’t worth the amount of views it has received, but whatever. I think the world has gone totally nuts like the movie showcases in “Idiocracy” (which I think is quite a brilliant comedy—perhaps too close to home now, foreshadowing events soon to come.) Anyway, that’s an entirely different topic.
I went into the studio, and within 2 ½ hours, I came out with this recording of it. I played about 3 or 4 measures on the drums and just continuously looped them, and did the same with my vocals. I then laid down a bass part in one take and the same with the electric guitar, which I didn’t plug into an amp. I just recorded it with the microphone directed at my picking hand. I then put in a bunch of effects from the audacity sound editor to get some odd sounds. The last two things I put in was a synthesizer part, overdubbed and looped a couple times in certain areas and looped one backing track which was already on the lead track. Sounds complicated but it was very easy. In some ways, it was fun. If this song, assuming I get a real video of it besides just the ones I usually post on my youtube site, goes viral, I’ll never live it down. It’s beyond a throw-a-way tune. It’s just my own silly experiment and response to the crazy Gangnam Style craze.

This is song #521.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
