This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen "Jolly Green Giant" of "Louie, Louie" fame, The Sonics "Psycho", The Frantics "Werewolf", and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
Back in the early 90's my friend, Sean Crain, stopped by and said, "Let's just write a song off the top of our minds." So, with that, I started the first line with what he said and the song was called OFF THE TOP OF MY MIND. I hadn't written very many rhythm and blues tunes, so I enjoyed working on this. We finished this song off within an hour and recorded it a few weeks later. It's simple, but it's fun.
Later that night (if I remember correctly) we went to the studio to make a quick demo of it. Sean played the bass and I played the rhythm guitar and did the lead vocal live in one take. I overdubbed another guitar part and another lead vocal during the 2nd take. Lastly, I overdubbed the drums. I had only played drums on a few songs by this point, so the drumming is quite bad. I had never drummed to a swing beat before, and it really shows. Regardless, we knew this wouldn't be the final version, but a good enough version to take to Bill Fletcher, our drummer, and have him learn it so we could record it for real one day, which we did within a month or so.

Even though this is the 403rd song I wrote, this demo version makes this recording #557.
