about

This is one of my earliest attempts at songwriting. I was heavily influenced by 50’s and 60’s rock and roll, oldies, and doo wop music. This was me trying to emulate that style. The bass part was written by my father, which is just a classic blues, rock bass line. I never liked the song that much. This song was written around 1984-85 during Mary Lou Retton’s height of fame. The lyrics are the first draft and I never revised it or tried to improve upon it. It’s just your basic gut bucket rock and roll tune with an oldies flavor to it—exactly what I was trying for back then. I also wanted this song to echo back every single line of the verses, which was the original intent I had when I wrote it. This is song #16.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

She’s Four-Foot Nine, And She Looks So Fine.
She’s A Little Bitty One, And She’s So Much Fun.
She Jumps So High. She Seems To Touch The Sky.

She Can Do The Flip Flop, And She Can Do The Bop.
She’s The Red, White, And Blue, And She Knows What To Do.
She Can Ramble All About, And She Can Twist And Shout.

I Said Now Mary Lou, She Knows What To Do.
I’m Gonna Love Her So. She’ll Give Me More, More, More.
I Love Her So Much Now What Am I To Do Mary Lou? Ow!
(Solo)
She’s One Of A Kind. She’s Always On My Mind.
I’m Gonna Love Her Right. I’m Gonna Love Her All Night,
Until She Can See That She Really Needs Me.

I Said Now Mary Lou, You Know What To Do.
I’m Gonna Love You So. I’ll Give You More, More, More.
I Love You So Much Now What Am I To Do Mary Lou?
I Love You So Much Now What Am I To Do Mary Lou?
I Love You So Much Now What Am I To Do Mary Lou?

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
