MY BRAND NEW CADILLAC

from international (2024 Remaster) by The Santairs

/

about

When I was a kid, I listened to a lot of the oldies rock and roll, mostly from the 50's to mid 60's. One thing I noticed was plenty of songs about cars. I wrote this song just when I was learning how to drive, so I finally understood the sense of freedom that came with driving a vehicle. (The girlfriend part of cars came later.) And I also liked some of the songs that were about cars, like LITTLE GTO, SOMETHIN' ELSE, DEAD MAN'S CURVE, LITTLE DEUCE COUPE, DRIVE MY CAR, and so forth. That doesn't even count the songs that came out later during the classic rock era like RADAR LOVE, BRAND NEW CADILLAC, ON THE ROAD AGAIN, etc. This was just my basic attempt at writing a song in the style of Chuck Berry and Eddie Cochran.
This is song #125.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

I Started Singing A Song That Was On The Radio.
I Was Drivin' Around With No Place To Go.
There Was No Goin' Back In My Brand New Cadillac.

I Started Watchin' T.V. Inside A Limousine.
I Got Bored In That Car. I Needed Something More Keen,
So I Tore Up The Track In My Brand New Cadillac.

I Went Into A Bar With A Drink In My Hand,
I Saw People There Dancin' To A Band,
Then They Started To Attack My Brand New Cadillac.

So I Drove On Home To Get Away From There.
I Heard Someone Say That My Car Looked Square.
Then I Said, “Hey Mac, Don't Insult My Cadillac!”

When I Went To Bed, You Won't Believe What I Seen.
It Was My Car All Made Up And Mean.
It Was Sportin' A Rack On That Cadillac.

So I Closed My Eyes, Tryin' To Get Some Sleep,
But I Tossed And Turned, Just Countin' Sheep.
And Even In The Sack, I Still Love My Cadillac.
When I'm In The Black, I'll Cruise My Cadillac.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
