MEMORIES BEYOND THE SUNSET (demo)

from LISTEN TO THE SILENT SNOW [Digitally Remastered] by The Santairs

/

about

And here's yet another version of this song, with a lighter lead vocal take than the previous version(s). In some ways, this is the superior version, but for the sake of cataloging, this will be issued as the demo take. I took the best instrumental version I had of this song and overdubbed a lead vocal at my home studio on 10-11-15. I prefer this simplified version to the other main version, but at least now the listener can make up their minds which one they prefer. As far as the overall recording goes, from the music to the lead vocal, this is the closest to the version we had in mind when we first started recording this song back in 1992.

This is song #593.

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA. & MINE Music Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

YOU TOOK MY HAND AND YOU TOOK MY HEART,
YOU TOLD ME YOU’D NEVER LEAVE.
LOVE IS WARMTH THAT CANNOT DEPART;
THAT’S WHAT I BELIEVED.

BUT I WAS WRONG TO SAY THAT YOU’D NEVER LEAVE ME THIS WAY.

EVERY NIGHT, I THINK OF YOU MORE.
WERE WE MEANT TO BE?
ALONE THIS TIME NEAR THE SHORE,
DREAMING THOSE MEMORIES!

BUT I WAS WRONG TO SEE THAT YOU BELONGED TO ME.
(SOLO)
WHAT CAN I DO IF YOU’RE NOT MINE?
ALL I DO IS DREAM
AM I A FOOL TO SAY EACH TIME,
“YOU’LL COME BACK TO ME”?

BUT IF I CANNOT SURVIVE, MY HOPES WILL EAT ME ALIVE.

LIKE THE WAVES THAT GLIDE FROM THE WIND,
WITH A TEAR IN MY EYE,
I CAME BACK TO SEE YOU AGAIN,
FEELING HELPLESS INSIDE.
AND IF I SAY MY LOVE WON’T END,
WILL YOU NOT PRETEND AND BE MY FRIEND AGAIN?

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
