Originally titled “Melissa” before changing it to “Melissa Tell Me,” I wrote this song for a girl I was trying to date (but with only minor success) who worked at a Pet Shop. The original line to the second verse is PET SHOP GIRL OF MY WORLD. Though the current recording reflects this, the line has been re-written to PLEASURE GIRL OF MY WORLD. Part of the in-joke is the guitar solo in the song. Part of it was written to sound like The Beach Boys surfing guitar leads back in the 60’s. This was an inferior version to the final one we recorded, though as a demo, it worked out quite well. In this version, the backing vocals are much rougher and the drum solo is totally different, while the guitar solo is not as refined as it is in the other version.
This is song #432 I wrote, though this recording will be song #502.
