This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
On this particular recording, I kept it simple, using only 3 musicians, including myself. I played the electric guitar, while Sean Crain played the acoustic guitar, and Christopher Boone performed the keyboards. It took a few tries before we got this take. Chris overdubbed his keyboard parts after we nailed the main performance. The high backing vocal and the last note on the synthesizer was overdubbed by myself in 2010 at my home studio.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This is song #128. At the time I wrote the song, I never knew or met a Melanie. Only shortly after I wrote this song did I actually meet a Melanie. And later in life, I got to know a few others over the years. I almost called this song “Melody” but I thought it was too obvious where the music was concerned. I find it to be one of the better female named songs that I've written. (There are 3 that I particularly like lyrically: Angela Angel, Laura, and Melanie.) You can hear the anguish in the words of this song of lost and unrequited love. Ironically, I later met a Melanie that these lyrics seem to fit perfectly, where it was life imitating art. Regardless, I find this song simple and sad, which I seem to like for some reason. I wrote this song on 5-26-86. The lyrics were inspired from my “first” crush (not named Melanie.)
Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA. and MINE music Studio in Auburn, WA.
lyrics
Sitting Inside My Lonely Room I Say,
“Until I Have You, This Is Where I'll Stay.”
My Thoughts Have Left Me So Far Behind.
I See With My Eyes, But Still I Am Blind.
Now You're Gone, I Cry And Think Of You.
The Love I Had Was Wrong And Yet So True.
And I Have Learned To Take It Like I Should.
I'd Say I'm Sorry Only If I Could.
Melanie, Oh Melanie, Please Don't Cry!
Melanie, Can't You See You're Mine?
I'm All Alone With Nothing Left To Do.
My Life Is Over All Because Of You.
I Can't Go On Until You Say To Me,
That You And I Were Always Meant To Be.
Melanie, Melanie, Don't You Cry!
Melanie, Let It Be. It's All A Lie.
Love Has Come And Left Me Once Again.
I Feel The Sorrow That Never Seems To End.
And I Can Say Without Any Regrets,
I'll Treasure Forever The Love I'll Never Forget.
Melanie, Melanie, I Wonder Why.
Melanie, How Can This Be Good-By?
I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I
could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs....more
I've jammed with this guy and have heard this band live. They play with all their soul and it shows--you can hear it as well as feel the music. The Santairs
