LOVIN' ALL THE TIME

from YOU TORTURE ME (2024 Remaster) by The Santairs

about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
This song was recorded along with 13 other songs in a 12 hour session. It was the first session where I met Kearney Barton. I wanted to try this since I knew The Beatles recorded some of their best sounding stuff very much like this. To this day, I like the fast pace of music since it seems more lively to me. By taking too long on a song and second guessing yourself, you tend to bog down the creative process. I'd rather have a few rough areas, and even mistakes in songs, rather than spending months on a perfect recording that stifles creativity. This song features Wayde Brown (me) on guitar and vocals; my dad Clinton Brown on bass, and Bill Fletcher on drums. I remember after the session was over, Kearney said he was very impressed at what we accomplished, especially since we never met before and had barely talked about a game plan. We kind of just went in and did it. The 12 hours included a quick, rough mix down as well. I only overdubbed the lead guitar. I did add backing vocals in certain areas of the song to fill it in a little with the Audacity program over 20 years later. This is one of four songs that got radio play. This one actually received the most air play. It seemed that is was popular around the colleges at the time. Even a live version of this song was played on the air since some people requested it. A producer told me once that he would like to see me add some country licks into the song, but I refused. Musically, it's simple and it works for me. I overdubbed the backing vocals since it added a small extra layer that I liked.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This is the 99th song that I wrote. I had a friend of mine named Glenn who always said, “Party In The Halls” in the fashion where I used the lyrics, “Lovin' All The Time.” He was mimicking Eddy Murphy's “Party All The Time” tune. I took those elements and made this song, which seemed to go over well during live performances. The recording is basic, but the arrangement has always been interesting. The last verse was more of an ad-lib of the first verse, so that came together nicely too. A teacher in High School told me it’s a sad song with a happy beat. I also remember this song being in 3 different parts with no home to put it in. With this song, I meshed all 3 together into this one song and it seemed to work very well.

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA. and MINE music Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

Lovin' All The Time, Lovin' All The Time.
You Think It's Great And You Think It's Fine.
Lovin' All The Time, Lovin' All The Time.
I Think It's Great To Love All The Time.

You Think That I Don't Care, But I Do.
Oh How I Love You.
Please Don't Go! I Love You So.
Tell Me You'll Stay. Don't Go Away!
I Want Some More.
If You Leave Me, You Know I Will Be
Oh So Blue. Oh How I Love You.
I Love You So, But If You Go....Oo!
(Solo)
I, I Want You For My Own.
I, I Love You, So Stay With Me.
Lovin' All The Time, Lovin' All The Time.
You Think It's Great And You Think It's Fine.
Lovin' All The Time, Lovin' All The Time.
I Think It's Great To Love You All The Time.

You Think That I Don't Care, But I Do.
Oh How I Love You.
Please Don't Ever Go 'Cause I Love You So.
Tell Me You'll Stay, Just Don't Go Away!
I Want Some More.
Please Don't Ever Leave Me. No, No, No, No, No.
You Know I Will Be
Oh So Blue. Oh How I Love You.
Yes I Love You So, But If You Go I'll Be So Sad And Blue Without You.
No, No, No, No. I Won't Go!
I'll Be Satisfied, When You're By My Side.
No, No, No, No. Oo, Lala!

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
