about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
This song features Wayde Brown (me) on guitar and vocals, Bill Fletcher on drums, and my father, Clinton Brown on bass. We did three live takes of this song and I used takes 2 and 3 to make this version. This song was recorded and mixed by The University of Washington students at Audio Recording, Inc. with Kearney Barton as their instructor. Overall, they did a fine job, but in the final mixes, the bass guitar can barely be heard. I opted to correct this with the current Audacity program I used. It was a serious task since the two takes I had were at different speeds, kind of like when the engineers had to figure out a way to combine two versions of The Beatles “Strawberry Fields Forever.” At least nowadays, we have the technology that makes it easier for DIY engineers like me. To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This, the 162nd song I wrote, was written about a girl I dated back when I was 18 years old. You could consider her my first love since it was actually my first relationship. When she broke up with me, this is what came out. From the several bad relationships that I was in, most of the songs show the hurt and pain from what I went through. Apparently, with her, this wasn't the case. It was one of those young love situations where, even though she broke my heart, the good feelings continued. I was hesitant in adding, at the last verse, a question since it's a very personal question; and I know the person that originally inspired the tune wouldn't be the one I could ask the question. But, after thinking about it for a while, I kept it in in favor that it might come in handy one day.

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

lyrics

Lovely Girl, Loving Charms.
Let Me Hold You In My Arms.
Let Me Say What I Feel.
Let Me Know Our Love Is Real.

Lovely Girl, Loving Heart.
Let Us Hope, Never Part.
I Want You. Hold Me Tight.
Let Me Squeeze You All Through The Night.

Love Is A Strange Thing.
It Makes Me Laugh And Sing.
At Times It Makes Me Cry,
Though I Know It Will Never Die.

Lovely Girl, Hold My Hand.
Let Me Know You Understand.
I Love You, Can't You See?
Will You Please Marry Me?

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
