I wrote this song shortly after my son was born. He couldn’t have been more than a month old. His mother, while holding him in the kitchen, sung a small part of this melody, saying, “Na, na, na, na….” and so on. I thought that would make a good children’s song if I fleshed it out. (Of course, it’s about a boy since I have a son—but I probably should write one for a girl too someday.) Anyway, I got an acoustic guitar and quickly recorded it on a mono tape recorded back in 1997 just so I can refer back to it when the time came. On Aug. 17th, 2012, the time came. (I know, it took a while.) I re-wrote a few of the lyrics that no longer had any meaning and recorded and performed it. I took it home for my wife at the time, Sarah, to get an opinion. She really like the song but thought I approached it all wrong, like a rock and roll singer. She thought it should be more like a lullaby that you would sing to a child and wanted the vocals to be softer, including the backing vocals. So, the next day, she went to the studio with me and I fleshed out the tune even more, re-recording the vocals and deleting all the electric instruments (except the bass guitar) and added maracas and another acoustic guitar. Three hours later, she had a version that she was much happier with, and I agreed with her. I’m still keeping the first version I did of it as an alternate, since there was one verse that was slightly different than the acoustic version. For the purposes of cataloging, the original (demo) rock version is song #461. The “acoustic” version will be song #515.
Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.
lyrics
NA, NA, NA, NA, NA,
NA, NA, NA, NA….
YOU ARE MY PRIDE, YOU ARE MY JOY.
YOU MAKE ME HAPPY 'CAUSE YOU ARE MY BOY.
YOU LIKE TO CRY, YOU LIKE TO LAUGH.
YOU ARE SO CUTE WHEN YOU PLAY IN THE BATH.
NA, NA, NA, NA, NA,
NA, NA, NA, NA….
YOU MAKE ME DANCE, YOU MAKE ME SING.
YOU ARE MY ALL AND EVERYTHING.
WE LOVE YOU, AND YOU LOVE US.
WE LOVE YOUR INNOCENCE AND YOUR TRUST.
'CAUSE YOU ARE MY BOY, MY LITTLE BOY.
NA, NA, NA, NA, NA,
NA, NA, NA, NA….
YOU SHOW ME LOVE. YOU SHOW ME PRIDE
AS WE GROW UP STANDING SIDE BY SIDE.
I LOVE YOU, AND YOU LOVE ME.
WE’LL BE HAPPY AS TWO HAPPY’S CAN BE
'CAUSE YOU ARE MY BOY, SO FULL OF JOY.
NA, NA, NA, NA, NA,
NA, NA, NA, NA….
FAMILY LOVES YOU. THEY THINK YOU ARE CUTE.
THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY WOULDN’T DO.
'CAUSE YOU ARE MY PRIDE, YOU ARE MY JOY.
YOU MAKE ME PROUD 'CAUSE YOU ARE MY BOY,
MY LITTLE BOY, LITTLE BABY BOY.
NA, NA, NA, NA, NA,
NA, NA, NA, NA.
I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I
could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs....more
I've jammed with this guy and have heard this band live. They play with all their soul and it shows--you can hear it as well as feel the music. The Santairs
