about

This was supposed to be an easy song to have recorded and mixed, but it turned out to be much more difficult than I expected. The writing part of the song itself was easy. I was paying homage to Hank Williams Sr. and I was inspired to write it as if he wrote it back in the late 40’s. The recording took much longer than I anticipated. I wanted to get an authentic sound with the instruments, but with recording equipment of today, that sound was difficult to achieve. I needed the acoustic guitars and lead vocal to be dominating, and the drums and bass to be in the background. I think I used a $10 plastic, no name microphone (with an on and off switch to boot) to record the snare. Usually, you’d want to have the snare to stick out, but in this case, I wanted it to sound soft yet somewhat present. During the mix down is when I had some issues. If I equalized it the way I wanted, like it was coming straight out of an AM radio station from a car in the 50’s, the quality of the recording would have nearly been lost. I had to compromise on the sound somewhat. I made it sound like it came from a car in the mid-80’s. By doing that, you could hear more definition of what was actually in the song. Otherwise, all you would have heard is the lead vocal and guitar. I still kept the recording and the mix as simple as I could, while still being able to hear some of the backing vocals and bass. The drums are almost non-existent, which was acceptable to me for this particular project.
This is song #392.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

Oh How I’m Sorry That We Had To Part.
Nothing Is Left For Me.
I Didn’t Know You Had A Cruel, Cruel Heart.
I’m As Lonely As I Can Be.

I Tried To Say That I Love You Still,
But You Never Listened To Me.
Some Way, Somehow, My Love Didn’t Fulfill.
I’m As Lonely As I Can Be.

When I Was With You
I Tried To Be Your Friend.
I Never Thought That Your Love For Me Would End.

There’s So Many Ways To Say I Love You,
But The Words Are Now Empty For Me.
Now I’m Alone With Nothing To Do.
I’m As Lonely As I Can Be;
Yes I’m Lonely As I Can Be.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
