I wrote most of this song while visiting a friend, Brent Johnson, in Denver, CO. He wanted to see how I wrote songs, so I wrote this in front of him. This song was inspired by the Van Morrison's tune, “Gloria.” But that song has a three chord progression, and I wanted to do less than that, so I cut this song down to a two chord progression. The verses, solo, and choruses follow the same rhythm pattern through-out the song. It's about as simple as it can get. The vocals are a screamer. This song was also inspired by The Pre-CCR group, The Golliwogs song “Brown-Eyed Girl” which has nothing to do with Van Morrison's song by the same name.
This is song #103.
Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.
lyrics
NOW I JUST WANT TO SAY,
I MET A GIRL ON A SPECIAL DAY.
THIS GIRL WAS GOOD. THIS GIRL WAS BAD.
SHE WAS A GIRL I WISH I HAD.
SO I SAID, “HELLO, WHAT'S YOUR NAME?”
SHE'S A GIRL THAT I COULDN'T TAME.
SHE'S A TIGER, A REAL GO-GETTER.
SHE'S MY KIND OF GIRL. SHE MAKES ME FEEL MUCH BETTER.
NOW I ONCE HAD, HAD A GIRL.
I ONCE HAD A GIRL. OH, HO, HO. NO, NO, NO.
(SOLO)
THE ONLY ONE TO CARE FOR ME
HAS GONE AWAY AS FAR AS I CAN SEE.
THERE'S NO MORE TO SAY. IT'S OVER AND DONE.
I'VE LOST A GIRL, MY ONLY ONE.
NOW I ONCE HAD, HAD A GIRL.
I ONCE HAD A GIRL. OH, HO, HO. NO, NO, NO.
NOW I ONCE HAD, HAD A GIRL.
I ONCE HAD A GIRL. OH, HO, HO. NO, NO, NO.
NO, NO, NO, NO. NO, NO, NO, NO.
I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I
could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs....more
I've jammed with this guy and have heard this band live. They play with all their soul and it shows--you can hear it as well as feel the music. The Santairs
