about

I mixed this song on the new beta version of the free shareware program music editor Audacity 1.3. It's like a new learning curve. I didn't have all the VST effects for this particular version like I do on the stable Audacity program, but there was enough to work with. I used a delay and gverb to get the sound I wanted while also using basic software edits to get this version sounding like this, including the silly beginning and ending that was added.
This is the 87th song I wrote, which is border line avant-garde. I remember two things inspired this tune. One was Bob Dylan and the other was Syd Barrett. I remember listening to some of their songs and it seemed to either have mistakes in them or were made to sound like they had mistakes in them on purpose. I really liked that idea. I also was trying to imitate some of the beginning musicians I heard when I was younger, always wondering why I was able to play the guitar, bass, and drums while other people, who practiced for months if not years longer than me, just couldn't grasp how to perform any of these instruments. Some people thought I was making fun of them, but in truth, I wasn't. To perform out of time with “purposeful mistakes” for a person who has internal timing is very difficult to say the least. I actually had fun recording this tune back in the mid-80's with just a classical acoustic guitar and vocals (with no effects or microphones) onto a Maxell UR-90 cassette tape from a mono tape recorder. The lyrics were meant to mean absolutely nothing and I wrote the entire tune within minutes. This song was originally written on 2-18-86.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

There's A Story Of A Man In The Woods. He Came To Me.
With A Cold, Cold Hand, He Came To Me.
His Kind Gestures Is On Her Mind,
With Nothing In His Head.

There's A Story Of A Girl I Heard. She Came To Me.
With A Face So Pretty, She Came To Me.
His Crazy Ways Is On His Mind. (Her Crazy Ways.)
With Pins In Her Hair.

This Is The Girl I Once Knew.
This Is The Guy She Once Had.
There Are These People In Their Lives.
How Do They Live On?

There's A Story Of A Couple. They Came To Me.
They Were So Strong. They Came To Me.
Problems Had Everything To Do With It.
I, I Wish They Were Dead. Wish They Were Dead.
I Wish They Were Dead.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
