GATHERING MY LOVE

from YOU TORTURE ME (2024 Remaster) by The Santairs

about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
This song is infamous for me. It's the only recording I made with Kearney, where I put in a lot of time and effort into a song, only to have it completely shelved. I did give a “very rough” copy of it to my cousin, who the song was written for. She liked it, but I think she was being nice. I played all the guitars (3 in all I think, one acoustic, one 12 string acoustic, and one electric), the drums, the bass, and lead and backing vocals. Sean Crain played the piano and keyboards. We spent an entire day recording this tune and never truly finished it. As a matter of fact, it had about 6 mistakes, from off timing within the song itself, to drums that were totally off in spots and so on. Even with the Audacity program I used to edit this mess, I only did a marginal job. It's good enough to post as far as I'm concerned, though I'm nowhere near happy with it. From what it was, it's a dozen times better. I also had to cut the song down by 15 seconds because of a mistake that I was unable to correct. It's not how I intended the song to be, but that's the way it is now. So, for the first time, I'm posting the final edit of this song. Like I said, my cousin was the only person to get a copy. Hopefully, everyone will at least get a chance to hear the best version available of this song, unless I record it again of course, which I have no intentions of doing at this time.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This is the 100th song I wrote. My grandmother knew I could write songs, and at the tender age of 16, she asked me to write an anthem for my cousin's wedding. She said she wanted the song to have the word “gather” or “gathering” in it, like a gathering of all the people together for this one event or for love, etc. I performed it live for the wedding in Denver, CO. with a professional piano player who was hired to be the main musical attraction. I didn't record it until a few years later. I remember that I got the biggest standing ovation of my career up to that point. Good for a teenage ego! I wrote the chords a day before I wrote the words. I wrote the words while in high school with a teacher who helped me write the first line. I got the basic idea for the music by stealing one of my own songs I wrote called, “Images.”

lyrics

Of All The Things That I See, With You Next To Me,
I Just Want To Say That I Love You.
Everything That You've Said Is Always In My Head.
Now I Want You To Be My Love.

Hold My Hand As I Gather All My Love For You.
Be My Love As I Think Of All The Things We Knew To Say I Love You.

All I Say Is The Truth To You.
I'll Share My Thoughts I See.
Say You're Mine And Love Me All The Time,
'Cause You're The One I Want For Me.

All The Things That I Feel, I Know This Love Is Real.
I'm Gathering My Love For You.
Walking Down The Aisle, Looking At Your Smile,
Now I Know We Will Be Together.

Hold My Hand As I Gather All My Love For You.
Be My Love As I Think Of All The Things We Knew To Say I Love You.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
