about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape. This song features Wayde Brown (me) on guitar and vocals, Bill Fletcher on drums, my father, Clinton Brown on bass, and Sean Crain on piano and backing vocals. The vocals in this song are doing some interesting things, though the take I got isn't the best vocal performance. I was just getting used to how to sing and perform live in a studio. I did this to save time and money since it was the quickest way to finish a song, plus I always like the sound better since it usually sounded more powerful. At the time of this recording, I was just starting to learn how to play lead guitar. I actually like the basic sound I got from the amp and guitar I had, plus I liked the playing where I didn't bend any strings and played the notes straight. This is also the first recording I did in the studio where I had more overdubs than I had recording tracks. I performed the tambourine, several backing vocal parts along with my friend, Sean Crain, helping out on backing vocals and piano. This was the second session at Audio Recording where the engineer had the University Of Washington students record and mix this session. In most of the songs, the bass was nearly taken out of the mixes and the sound was muddy. This song was the least muddy and had the most bass to it, which I am very happy about. My father wrote the bass part and I think it's one of his best performances.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This is song #344. This song is about an actual person, a rarity for those songs with women names I've used. Gena and I went to the same middle and high school. I had a major crush on her and didn't treat her very well during the middle school years. To kind of make it up to her, I wrote this song as a tribute to say that I was sorry and truly loved her, though it was a puppy love. I enjoy this song based on the chord progression, the lead guitar, the vocal melody, and the bass part. The end of the song is another Bee Gees homage to a couple songs they ended that way. I believe it was my father who wrote that ending. As far as the writing was concerned, I was falling back on certain words and phrases too much, like “What am I to do? What are we going to do?” and so forth. Because of this song, it made me a better song writer, at the very least in a more conscious way.

lyrics

As I Was Dreamin' Of The Past, I Found My Love For You At Last.
The Memories Still Hold True. Forever I'll Love You.

You Have Grown So Beautiful, And I Don't Know What Words To Say.
My Heart Is Yearning For You. This Time My Love Will Stay,
And That Is The Truth.

Oh Gena, I Love You. Gena, What Am I To Do?

When Will It Come The Time For You To Be With Me?
Forever In My Mind You Will Always Be.

Gena, I Need You. Oh, Gena, What Can I Do?

We Are Different In Our Ways, Though We Still Have A Chance.
Just Give Me A Moment To Say That We Have A True Romance.
Will You Give Me The Chance To Be With You?
(Solo)
Gena, I Want You, Yes I Do. Gena, What Are We Gonna Do?
Gena, Gena, Gena, I'm In Love With You.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
