FIREWORKS/DISTORTION was supposed to be two separate pieces of work that were actually several recordings made through-out the day on January 1st, 1990. With a mono hand held tape recorder, I went outside and recorded some fireworks from other people including myself. It wasn't illegal to shoot them off at the time like it is now. Talking about losing freedoms when one gets older, how pathetic! Anyway, I recorded other sounds around the house including my cat that was sleeping. The guitar work was pretty much me doing some avant-garde stuff and practicing with certain sounds from an amplifier and effects that I had. I also recorded some other sounds during that day and pasted it all as one long recording. The second half of the recording, from the guitar work onward, was recorded on a 2 track recorder.
I still had the original tape of this and I transferred it from a “Denon Precision Audio Component/Stereo Cassette Tape Deck (DRM-700) with Silent Mechanism/Dual Power Supply System 3 Head” onto the Audacity audio editor and recorder.
These songs (or “recordings”) would make it be #396/397 of songs/recordings I've written. I made a couple dozen recordings like this as a time stamp of my life and the creative process of making noise prior to actually sitting down and writing what I would consider a real song. As a matter of fact, while listening to these recordings in their entirety, you'll hear other songs I later wrote that was taken from some of the sounds I did on here.
