EXPLAIN (YOUR LOVE)

about

A band my father performed with back in 1963, Dave and the Saints, recorded two songs for a 45 single release. Side A, an original written by Dave Barhite, wrote the song, “Leavin' Surf City” which charted in the Top 100. Side B was a cover song called, “Fever” written by J. Davenport and E. Cooley. Their version wasn't the typical version of the song, most known by Peggy Lee. My father wrote an entirely different bass part and the drummer, Daryl Kennedy put in a counter beat to the bass, which also differed heavily from the most known versions. With the Audacity music and sound editor, I took the bass and drum parts to the song, repeated it for a couple minutes, added a lead guitar after their lead, and then wrote my own song around it, with a new melody and lyrics. I kept the scratches on the record to keep that 50's-60's feel to it, as if a record was playing on a phonograph. I wrote the song in about an hour, overdubbed all the parts (other than what was already there) and within 4 hours, it was complete. In truth, because my father and the drummer wrote entirely new parts to their cover of “Fever,” I feel my version is also an original composition—at least to a certain extent. It sounds nothing like “Fever” but very much like their version of it, just without their vocals, words, or melody.
This is song #494. The lyrics was inspired by a Lee Dorsey song called, Ya, Ya” and my father’s influence. My dad liked “Ya, Ya” because he considered it a happy song instead of the usual sad love songs people typically write. So I wrote, what I consider to be, a somewhat happy song.

Recorded at MINE Music Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

I've Got This Feeling That I Can't Explain.
Drives Me Crazy As If I'm In Pain.
I Think I Might Just Now Be Going Insane For Your Love.

I've Got This Feeling And I Can't Complain.
It Makes Me Shiver In Sunshine Or Rain.
I May Never Be Feeling The Same With Your Love.

Feelings Of Happiness,
Emotions I Can Express.
No More Feelings Of Loneliness In My Heart.
(Solo)
I Can't Explain This Little Feeling Inside.
Being With You, Honey, Side By Side,
Can You See That You've Uplifted My Pride With Your Love? (Love!)

Loneliness Has Gone Away.
Sorrow For No More Days,
Never To Be Coming Back Or Lead Me Astray With Your Love.
(Solo)

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
