ETERNALLY LONELY

from Touch Of Fantasy by Rice Cracker Project

/

about

Recorded at our own studio called The CELL BLOCK Studio, we (the other group I record with called RICE CRACKER PROJECT) wrote this song back in 2009 and recorded it in 2010. It’s on our released CD entitled, “Touch of Fantasy.” This song’s riff started when I was on guitar, while Stephen Prescott was on drums (and he doesn’t play them, just bangs on them) and Nick Wilcox was on bass. We recorded the riff for about 3 minutes and I took that recording home to work on it. Within a few months, but only working on it for a day, I brought the song back and had a finished progression and words. We worked on it and recorded it over 3 sessions. The extended ending was my idea, using the Audacity program for all the special effects. It was my way of learning how to use that Program to edit and make sounds. There is one thing I added as a special effect throughout the entire song after the first chorus. I had a guitar that was giving off feedback which was recorded. Instead of discarding it, I had it play at a very low frequency. I heard that the composer for "The Dark Knight" did something like this to give off mood, and I was attempting to do the same with this song. I think this song is the best of the bunch of the new songs created for the project, though I’ve never been satisfied with the musical performance on my part. But everyone else stepped up to the plate and did such wonderful performances that I left my parts alone. It has the most haunting melody than most any of the songs I’ve written.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

YOU AND I CAN'T RELY ON YOU IF YOU SAY WE'RE THROUGH
THEN YOU TELL ME THAT WE'RE ONE OF TWO, JUST TO BE UNTRUE
THEN YOU LEAVE ME TO—LONELINESS....

IS THE BEST WE CAN DO (AS IT TESTS JUST US TWO)
TO SAVE OUR SANITY (WHICH CAVES TO OUR VANITY)
AS WE UNITE INSANITY (WHILE IT IGNITES THE PROFANITY) TO BE LONELY----

ETERNALLY, LONELY AS CAN BE, FEELING NOTHING'S TRUE
EXCEPT TO BE WITHOUT YOU. AND I SHED OUR ALIBI'S
WHILE I FEAR TO DIE OF LONELINESS....

ONLY BRINGS US TOGETHER (LIKE THE THINGS WE KNOW BETTER)
AS IT TEARS US APART (WHILE MY SOUL BARES THE HEART)
YET MY HEART STARTS TO BLEED (TOGETHER APART IS OUR NEED) AND FEEDS THE LONELY.

LONELINESS CAUSES US DISTRESS, LOVE IN SUCH DURESS,
CAN'T CARESS YOUR SKIN--ONCE AGAIN, FROM A PAST OF SINS
THAT FEEDS OFF OF LONELINESS....

LONELINESS CAUSED OUR LOVE TO DIE, BLED OUR LOVE TO DRY,
AS WE STOPPED BEING LOVINGLY WITH ECSTASY
WHAT WE HAD TO BE WITH LONELINESS...

LONELINESS FORCED US TO SEE THAT WE'LL NEVER BE
BELONGING TO BE AS ONE—WE'RE ALL BUT DONE,
TWO WILL BECOME ONE....FROM LONELINESS.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
