about

I had a demo made of this song back in the early 90’s that was just terrible. I spruced it up and made it a little bit fun as far as the recording was concerned. I didn’t put any effects on any of my lead vocals except adding reverb. I always wanted the first verse to be sung at a low register and the last verse at a higher pitch. I was thinking of The Righteous Brothers at the time I wrote this tune. During the very end, where I’m singing the “OO’s” I had an easy time doing the high part when I did the demo when I was about 20 years old. Now that I’m 43, I had a heck of a time getting those same notes. I was able to, but it took several takes and about 20 minutes to accomplish. I guess if you don’t use it, you lose it. Or, everything gets worn out with age.
This is the 24th song I wrote. This is one of the very first songs I co-wrote with anyone and the first one with my school friend, Sean Crain. I consider this song to be a throw away. Sean wrote the first verse and I wrote the second verse and chorus. This is one of the few songs where I wrote a song entirely around a bass riff. The lyrics, or the story of the song, was inspired by The Beatles “Run for your Life.” It’s about a lying manipulator who can even be perceived as a person who has a streak of domestic violence. It’s not the happiest of songs, and after writing this, I understood why John Lennon didn’t like “Run for your Life.” It’s not a great subject to write about.

lyrics

If I Should Die, You'll Wonder Why
'Cause I Won't Be There To Get Your Share.
Now I Can See That You Really Need Me.
You Love Me So, So You Better Not Go.

Don't Say No! Please Don't Go! (Don't Ever Leave)
Don't Say No! (I Need You)
'Cause I'll Love You Even More,
But If You Walk On Out That Door,
I Won't Love You Anymore, I Swear.

It's Time For Me To Say That You Are Gonna Pay.
Things You Said To Me, I'll Take You To Your Knees.
So You Better Remember That I Have A Temper.
I'll Make It So Rough, So You'll Have To Get Tough.

Don't Say No! Please Don't Go! (Don't Ever Leave)
Don't Say No! (I Need You)
'Cause I'll Love You Even More,
But If You Walk On Out That Door,
I Won't Love You Anymore, I Swear.

Don't Say No! Don't Say No! Don't Ever Say No! Oo!

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
