about

Another extreme example of some of the avant-garde stuff I did, this is another one of those recordings where, if one actually listens to it, will think I’ve totally lost it. My brother, John, once said (about this song and a few other avant-garde things I’ve done) that if a psychiatrist heard any of these songs/recordings, they would have me committed. He was probably right. In a way, it’s embarrassing stuff to make public, for in truth, I never wished certain recordings to ever be made public. But since I’m posting (mostly the full complete versions on youtube) of these recordings, I might as well not shy from it. It’s an accurate record of how I did some things. Besides using a mono tape recorder to record this, the batteries were nearly dead at the time. I didn’t know this at the time but really didn’t care about the batteries, especially considering what I was doing or was trying to do. This “song”, however, wasn’t meant to be serious. There were three reasons why I did it. At the time, I never wrote a “dirty” song with adult lyrics. In this recording, I was able to use some, but in a comedic way—and not be actual full out curse words. Secondly, I wanted to do a basic guitar riff while singing and performing non-stop, alike some of the things Woody Guthrie did that I enjoyed (though what he did was good) and lastly, I needed to fill in about 40 minutes of tape space to finish off the cassette I had so I could get new ones. Really, it was the latter one that was the deciding factor back when I was a teenager. It’s also a song I totally improvised. Nothing was written, nothing worked out, except the silly country, folk riff. So, basically, I wanted to waste some tape time so my parents could buy me some more tapes. There, the truth is now known. I wasn’t even trying to sing in key. As a matter of fact, I was trying my best to be off key and out of time. It looks like I succeeded for the most part. As far as my crazy life goes, this will probably be some insane youtube viral hit in which I’ll become famous. If that ever becomes the case, I think I’ll just quit now.
This is recording #366.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
