about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen “Jolly Green Giant” of “Louie, Louie” fame, The Sonics “Psycho”, The Frantics “Werewolf”, and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
Wayde Brown (me) on vocals and guitar; Nick Wilcox on backing vocal and bass; and Dan Penland on backing vocal and drums performed this song. We had two unfinished versions of this song, so I combined the two songs into one on the Audacity program. One version was a very slow ballad and one version was a bit more upbeat. I chose the upbeat version as the main one and used bits and pieces of the slower one to make this into one full song. I added keyboards at my home studio to fill out the gaps that were still present in the song. Overall, this was one of the most “finished” tunes not to be totally completed until recently.
To finish off this particular mix, I had to convert it from a cassette format (which was the only format I had this in) onto the Audacity program on my computer with a JVC TD-W254 Double Cassette Deck 3 motor Silent Mechanism.
This is song #437 that I wrote. It's about a real person that I was trying to date but never flourished. I worked in security at the time and she was a resident at the place I was guarding. We became a bit close until I was promoted to security supervision and she went to work as a nurse in Seattle. When I wrote the song, I was listening to a lot of Roy Orbison and decided to pay homage to him since he had recently passed away at that time. I used to listen to Roy Orbison songs when I was a child as well, so his music was always familiar to me, and I always enjoyed his stuff. This song had pretty much everything worked out except the keyboard part which I wanted to have strings to fill it. It's not perfect, but the performances are there. The last vocal note you hear in there is Nick Wilcox, in his highest singing voice, saying Cathy's sister's name, Aendenne.

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA. and MINE Music Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

Cathy, I Fell In Love With You.
Cathy, I Thought That You Knew.
You Walked With Me That Night.
You Held My Hand So Tight.
What Can I Say To Make You Stay?

Cathy, Will You Give Me A Chance?
Cathy, May We Start This Romance?
I Cried When You Went Away.
I Feel So Lonely Today.
I Can't Let You Go, I Need You So.

Cathy, In Dreams I Search For You.
Cathy, I Don't Know What To Do.
I Don't Know Where To Start,
Though I Know That In My Heart,
It Will Be Just You And Me.

Cathy, I've Been Alone Too Long.
Cathy, Where Did I Go Wrong?
I Close Eyes And See,
We're Together Eternally.
Then I Open My Eyes And I Cry, Cry!
Cathy, Cathy, Cathy, Cathy, Cathy.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
