BILLY-JOE MCQUIRE

from EXPERIMENTAL TAPE (2024 Remaster) by The Santairs

/

about

I wrote this song years ago (though never finished it until nearly the time of the recording) after listening to folk songs, from Dylan to Baez; from Peter, Paul, and Mary to Croce. I was also in the midst of watching all the Billy Jack movies which also helped inspire this tune. This song is based more on emotion and feeling than telling a full rounded story, but it works for me this way. (Special Thanks to Ann Bisogno for the bass inspiration.)
This is song #356.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.
(Special Thanks to Ann for the bass inspiration.)

lyrics

The Way This Whole Thing Started Was When This Man Had Lied.
He Knew He Must Die.
Way Before The Times Of Anger And Despair,
Billy-Joe Mcquire Didn't Care.

Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire Died.

He Smoked And Drank Himself Into An Early Grave.
He Knew His Soul Won't Be Saved.
He Was Just A Fool With A Gun At His Head.
He Knew He Wanted To Be Dead.

Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire Died.

One Day He Tried To Run And He Tried To Hide.
Billy Joe Mcquire Had To Die.
He Raped And Killed The People In Our Lives.
I'm The One Who Hung Him Out To Dry.

Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire Had Died.

When It Was All Over, We Laughed And We Cried.
I Framed Billy-Joe To Die.
But What Was Learned From Death And This Pain?
In Revenge, There's Nothing To Be Gained.

Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire, Billy-Joe Mcquire Had Died.

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
