about

This was my first attempt at writing a slow (or, at least semi-slow) song. I had written 13 songs by this point, (with the 14th one written by my dad’s friend which was a slow song, but I didn’t have much to do with it except a few lines and chords changes) and my father suggested I try my hand at writing a ballad. This was the result. It’s not a bad attempt and the chorus is a bit catchy. I remember my dad writing the bass part years ago and when I recorded this on 1/25/2014, he was there to hear it. As he said, he thought my bass playing and writing improved highly in this song, but I told him it was the bass part he wrote for it that made the tune. Then he laughed and said, “I thought it sounded familiar.” That’s his sense of humor! He knew it was his bass part. I just emulated it the best I could and it seems I was successful by my father’s reaction. I also remember this being a song where one line is written in a question, as if the person is talking to themselves, but then coming to realize the reality of the situation with the line that follows. It’s like being in a relationship that you tell everyone and yourself that it’s wonderful, but in reality, it’s already failed. Pretty “deep” for a 15 year old writing this stuff, but, for some reason, I had it in me and it wanted to come out—in the form of this song.
This is song #15.

Recorded at The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.

lyrics

What Can I Say? Love Came To Me Today.
When I Met You, Mm, My Life Was Empty Too.
I Came To You And Said, “You're Always In My Head.
My Life Is Not Worthwhile If I Can Not See You Smile.”

All Of My Life Dear, Everybody Said,
Your Love For Me Will Soon Be Dead.
You Are My Life Girl, What’s More To Say?
All I Can Do Is Go Home And Pray
And There I’ll Stay. There I’ll Stay.

What Can I Say? Love Came To Me Today.
When I Met You, Oho, My Life Was All Through.
What Must I Do? Your Love For Me Isn’t True.
What Should I Say? Love Left Me Today.

All Of Our Lives Dear, Love Wasn’t There.
Love Wasn’t Good To Me Or The Things We Shared.
All Of Your Life Girl, You Will See—That
Everything We Did Will Always Be
Here With Me; All Those Memories.

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
