about

Back in 2002 and 2003, this song was inspired and written by Laura DiPrete, based on the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Her husband was in the military reserves and called to duty. This was a deeply personal song for Mrs. DiPrete and she wanted to record it not only for her husband, but for all the troops serving in our military. Laura approached me and asked whether the group I was in, called CRIME SCENE, would be interested in recording the song while she provided the lead vocals. After a couple practices and help arranging the tune, we went to Mirror Sound Studio to record it with engineer Ken Fordyce. My contribution to the song only concerned part of the arrangement, from the drum ending, to the emphases of the third verse on the down beats where the verse says, “We'll unite; we will fight, we will bring them peace,” to the intro of the song, as well as the first solo part. For the second solo, I suggested to the other lead guitarist, Jay Munger, to follow the melody of the chorus for a part of it, which he ended up doing.
The players: Wayde Brown on rhythm and lead guitar, Jay Munger on rhythm and lead guitar and backing vocals, Nick Wilcox and bass, Mark Hasbrook on acoustic guitar, Paul Kollman on drums, and Krista Broomhead on backing vocals; Featuring Laura DiPrete on lead vocals.
Laura did two main performances on the lead vocals on two different dates. I took the two versions of the song and combined the best of both versions, using the Audacity program I have on my home computer, to create this new 3rd version of this patriotic and inspirational tune. Though I didn't technically write this song, I did have input in the arrangement of the music.
This song #486 on my list.

Recorded at Mirror Sound Studio in Shoreline, WA.

lyrics

They Believe In The Home Of The Free.
They Fight For The Freedom Of You And Me.
They Fight For These Rights Over Land And Sea,
For Others To Know What It's Like To Be Free.
Oh, They Believe.

In These Days, It Appears To Me,
There's A Mix Of Emotion In Society.
Should We Stay, Should Be Go, Should We Let It Be?
Is It Worth Losing Life So That Others Can Be Free?
Oh, They Believe.

So Stand Up And Support Them Everyone.
The Battle Isn't Always Easily Won.
Be With Them As They Face The Enemy.
Remember, They Are Why We All Are Free!
(Solo)
With These Days, It Is Clear To Me,
Although There's Confusion In Society,
We'll Unite; We Will Fight; We Will Bring Them Peace.
We Will Risk Our Lives So That Other Can Be Free.
Oh We Believe.

So Stand Up And Support Them Everyone.
The Battle Isn't Always Easily Won.
Be With Them As They Face The Enemy.
Remember, They Are Why We All Are Free!
(Solo)
So Stand Up And Support Them Everyone.
The Battle Isn't Always Easily Won.
Be With Them As They Face The Enemy.
Remember, They Are Why We All Are Free!
(Drum Solo/Out)

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
