I wrote this song around 1985. “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” both by Elvis Presley and Lloyd Price, influenced this song. Also, I got the title from the movie “Paper Moon” and decided to twist the words around a bit. As far as the lyrics are concerned, it wasn’t deep or meant to be anything except an exercise in writing a blues, swing/shuffle style song. On Aug. 4th, 2012, I recorded and performed all the instruments. Originally, this song didn’t have a solo, so I added a cheap harmonica I had around. Being inspired by that solo, I extended the solo (after I already recorded the song) and added a lead guitar part to it, as a partial joke, but also to a slight nod to an old friend lead guitarist of mine, Jay Munger. Jay was one of the fastest, if not the fastest lead guitarist I ever met. He had a knack for adding notes to a guitar when it didn’t seem possible to have any. I can’t play nearly as fast as him, but I did my best to play this insane solo, which truly doesn’t belong in the song, but it was fun trying to emulate some of his techniques. Where I’m extremely sloppy, he was smooth as silk. Overall, this was just a fun song to record. I wrote this song originally as a poem in high school. This is song #21.
Recorded in The CELL BLOCK Studio in Auburn, WA.
lyrics
Paper Man, Paper Man, Take Me Away.
I Can’t Go There And I’ve Got To Stay Away.
Paper Man, Paper Man, Take Me Down.
Let Go Gently And Don’t Make A Sound.
Paper Man, Paper Man, Go Away.
You Know What I Know To Come Back Some Other Day.
Paper Man, Paper Man, Find Paper Moon.
When You’re Friends With All Friends, It’ll Happen Soon.
(Solo)
Paper Man, Paper Man, Run To Her.
Tell Her That You Love Her And Then You’ll Be Sure.
I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I
could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs....more
