about

This song was recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle by legendary engineer, Kearney Barton (who recorded The Kingsmen "Jolly Green Giant" of "Louie, Louie" fame, The Sonics "Psycho", The Frantics "Werewolf", and many others.) It was an 8 track analog studio, recorded onto 1 inch reel tape.
This particular song was actually digitally transferred at the studio onto a CD format, so all I had to do was transfer the CD onto my computer and onto the Audacity program to make edits and corrections to get a final mix. I hadn't been to Audio Recording, Inc. in nearly 7 years and decided to return there to record this tune. This was back in the year 2000.
I performed on all the instruments including the guitars, bass, vocals, bongos, wood block, and tambourine.
This is the 466th song that I wrote according to my records. The words are pretty much true, except that they were about another woman named Shanna. Laura was also a friend of mine and a part time singer. Laura has always been friendly and caring and had a free spirit about her which influenced the music and chord progression of the song while the words were written directly about Shanna, a woman for whom I fell deeply. I combined, what I considered, to be the best of both worlds and came up with a song that's a bit more grown up for me, getting past the lost loves and just blaming myself or the other party, which is easy to do in a song. The words in this song had actual meaning and the song had me grow into a different direction as a songwriter and as a person. It's not one of my past, common love songs with a woman's name in it. I did, however, overdub another lead vocal to say "Shanna" instead of "Laura." The Shanna version just didn't sound right, so I opted for the Laura version, which is the way I originally intended. I also wanted the 2nd half of the song, during the solo, be able to stand on its own as if it were a separate song. I feel I pulled it off.

Recorded at Audio Recording, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

lyrics

Laura, I Can't Forget Your Face,
The Warmth Of Your Sweet Smile
Or The Love Of Your Embrace.
Laura, I Won't Forget The Time
When I Knew You Were Mine
And You Helped Me To Define Myself.

My Love, You Make My Life.
The Truth Is In Your Eyes.
You Can See Through All The Lies.
Girl, I Starve For Your Affection.
In Loneliness I Cry As My Heart Beats With A Sigh.
(Solo)
Laura, The Smell Of Your Perfume
Reminds Me Of The Time
When I Held You In My Room.
Laura, I Long To Taste Your Lips
And Kiss Your Fingertips,
Caress And Touch Your Hips Like This.....

Darlin', I Just Can't Believe
But I Know It's True
That I'm Still In Love With You.
Dear, This I Won't Deny,
Yet What Am I To Do If You Will Not Love Me Too?

about

The Santairs Auburn, Washington

I am a musician, singer, and songwriter doing this part-time but have been doing it all my life. I started singing before I could talk at the age of one, and wrote my first real song at 15 years of age. (If you count avant-garde as a song, then the age would be 7.) I currently own my own recording studio; and I write, perform, and record my own music (and other's from time to time.) I am Santairs. ... more
